Laundry, Laundry Everywhere!

Towels,  my recent life feels as if it has been spent folding them.  There have been so many towels to be laundered and folded of late that I suspect each member of my crew has been using one towel per body part per shower!  Over the weekend, I washed three large loads of towels and still had not finished the task!!!
Then there's the folding. I simply couldn't get them folded and to the closets.  The problem may just be with my help...

I turned away for merely a moment and the entire basket of towels was gone.
"Molly! Where did you go??"

"Hey Molly!"
(Getting warmer...)

"Oh Molly!"
(there's Ethel passed out behind the basket)

"Do you think you can give me the basket back?"

"I really need to finish the laundry."

"Mommy, you can't HANDLE the laundry!"

Ladies, Linemen and Laundry

Another weekend has past.  It whizzed by before I had even settled into it.  Friday night I spent with friends not accomplishing much that could be measured, but much that was deeply felt.  We gathered, each with our own pet projects to entertain our hands while our conversations entertained our spirits.  We parted company late in the evening most of us only to meet again less than 10 hours later when our sons met on the football field.

It was my favorite flag football game by far which is saying something considering kickoff time was set for 8:00 am.  Many of the boys on the opposing team were sons of my friends and friends of my son.  Standing together cheering for them all was so much better than divided into groups hollarin' for some arbitrary color to prevail.

My Mom left her cozy bed, two hours drive from here, in the 5 am hour to be on time for kick off and stayed for most of the day doing laundry and playing board games with the kids thus snagging  the highly coveted Grandma of the Year award.

Its a very good thing I have cute kids, otherwise I'd never be able to get anyone to come help me wade through the Lake O'Laundry!  I keep promising myself I'll stay caught up after each use of the EMCDML signal (that's Emergency Mom Come Do My Laundry signal).  It never works though, remember last time?  In fact, to be quite honest, two days have passed and I'm a smidge behind once more.  That's OK though, I would hate for Mom to be bored next time she drives two hours to visit!

Exchange Rate

"Babe," I said to My Man in a weary it's-been-a-fun-but-tiring-Saturday voice, "if you will be in charge of bathing the children tonight, I'll iron five of your shirts."

"Okay," he nodded with an equally weary I'm-tired-too-but-I've-been-waiting-three-weeks-for-those-shirts-and-I-really-need-one-to-preach-in-tomorrow look on his face.

And so. . .

and then. . .

but look!

Don't you just love to get a little more than you bargained for?

Books

Tell me please, why all the fuss about summer reading? Everywhere I turn there are wonderful lists of books that the list-writer has planned on reading during the summer. My favorite blogs are full of summer reading lists and many of my cherished podcasts are waxing poetic on the topic.

The "list maker" app on my Ipod is also full of summer reading plans. I made these lists (yes, there are quite a few lists in there) in the spring while on a trip with my Man and my Molly. We cruised a bookstore or two (more like 10) while we traveled and I, knowing that I had little time for personal reading before school ended for the year, made lists of books I would conquer during the blissful, carefree, lazy days of summer. (Can't you just hear the ocean waves and the gentle breeze blowing?)

My lists were organized into categories which included: Summer Non-Fiction, Summer Mysteries, Inspirational Non-Fiction, Biographies & Summer Fiction. A glance at the calendar tells me that summer is half over. My reading lists inform me that the only fiction in my summer has been the idea that I'd have any time to read!

What was I thinking? We flew right out of baseball into two weeks of swimming lessons. Swimming lessons faded as theater camp entered the scene. Theater camp ended production yesterday and Vacation Bible School begins tomorrow. In our future, basketball camp, football camp, and vacation remain.

My new book list has two books on it, both of which I've already begun and have a small prayer of finishing. One is an audio book, to be listened to while doing laundry and the other is a mystery to be read while hiding in the basement pretending to do the laundry.
